A modern & magical take on honey wine, this non-alcoholic sparkling mead was crafted from the Scandinavian forests in Norway.

Empress Woodland is a true collection of natural ingredients native to the landscape where Empress produces its wine alternatives. Empress has created Woodland in collaboration with another innovative Norwegian brewery, Olso Brewing Co. This kombucha-based honey wine is full of sophistication and fresh wildwood notes.

What does it taste like?

  • Nose: fresh forest bouquet, full of floral & pine notes

Yummy!

I received two of these wines, and this was my favorite. Love that it’s quite low in sugar and calories so you can drink a decent amount. The flavor is so dynamic, and it just feels good to drink. Not too bitter, not too sweet, it’s just right.

Not bad, but not what I'd hoped

This was not bad, and if there were half-star ratings, it would get a 3.5. But ultimately, it tasted like a cross between ACV and kombucha. I like both of those things, but it was advertised as a foresty-tasting, non-alcoholic sparkling mead; it didn't taste foresty to me at all (my husband hates all the foresty tasting things I love, and he didn't hate this), didn't remind me of mead (which I homebrew and have tried from a lot of different producers as well), and didn't retain that much sparkle after the first glass (I consumed the whole bottle in three days and used a champagne stopper in between). It also didn't remind me of alcohol - I don't need AF drinks to be exact dupes, but this just didn't have any qualities that scratched the same itch for me (Noughty and Ghia are examples of products that do).

It's worth a try, but you should definitely reconsider if you don't really enjoy the taste of kombucha and at least mildly enjoy the taste of drinking vinegar. I probably wouldn't buy this one again, but I also did finish it and would accept a glass if offered to me in someone's home.
